Kathleen Williams Maddle

Kathleen Williams Maddle, age 93, of Rose Hill, Virginia, was called home to be with the Lord, passing peacefully with her family by her side on September 27, 2025, in Johnson City, Tennessee. Though her earthly journey has ended, her soul now rejoices in the presence of her savior. She was born in Appalachia, Virginia, on January 23, 1932, to the late Monroe and Lena Mae Tate Williams. In addition to her parents, Kathleen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Billie Maddle; her son, Roy “Eddie” Hounshell; her daughter-in-law, Pamela Hounshell; her sisters, Madeline Peterson and Clara Marie Whitt; her nephews, Perry Whitt and Matthew Whitt; and her special friend, Roger “Buck” Lowe. Kathleen is survived by her cherished grandchildren: Kathy Springer (Brian Brown) of Connersville, Indiana; Kristy Hounshell Lee (Todd) of Rose Hill, Virginia; and Kevin Hounshell of Anderson, Indiana. She was a beyond proud great-grandmother to Vincent Springer (Natalie) of New Madison, Ohio; Preston Springer of Connersville, Indiana; Dustin Lee of Rose Hill, Virginia; Dylan Lee of Harrogate, Tennessee; and Dawson Lee of Rose Hill, Virginia. She was also blessed with six great-great-grandchildren, whom she adored: Hayslee, Harper, Paxton, Hueston, Hyatt, and Havanna Springer. Kathleen is also survived by her beloved nieces and nephews: Jackie and Patricia Hutchinson, Shelia Brown (Bobby), Tommy and Marilyn Peterson, Titus and Theresa Whitt; Tim and Wendy Whitt; Jr. Whitt; and Linda Whitt. Great-nieces and nephews include Justin and Bridgette Hutchinson, Buddy and Brandy Slaughter, Robert and Kristi Brown, Brandon and Ashley Brown, Jennifer and George Stanton and Tommy Peterson, Tanna and Alex Williams, Cei Jae Whitt (Kevin Payne), Angie and K.J. Zumbrum, Leroy Whitt, and Jessica and Bobby McPherson. Additionally, Kathleen is survived by special family who loved her so sweetly: Emily Lee Stanley (Devin) and their children Bryce, Sydnee, Seaton, and Kallen Stanley. She also leaves behind many cousins, extended family members and friends that she loved dearly. Kathleen was a member of Ball’s Chapel Church in Rose Hill, Virginia, where she found strength in her faith and lifelong fellowship in her church family. She loved her church family and was passionate about reading her bible. She worked for and retired after more than 30 years of service from Richmond Community Schools in Indiana. Kathleen enjoyed piecing quilt tops by hand and then quilting them on her trusted machine, which she had used since 1975 to create beautiful treasures. Over the years, she lovingly crafted more than 4,000 quilts; each one a reflection of her patience, creativity, and generosity. She also loved tending to her garden, canning, planting flower beds, and growing beautiful violets of every color. Mamaw’s cakes were legendary; she made sure there was one for every family dinner or get-together, school fundraiser for the kids, or any occasion she felt needed celebrating. She loved babysitting her grandchildren, supporting them in everything they did, and showering them with unconditional love. Mamaw was proud of her grandchildren and always wanted to hear updates and stay involved in everything they did. She was the central part of everyone’s life and was truly the matriarch of the family. Kathleen was also blessed with a special group of friends who brought joy, laughter, and companionship to her life: Wilma Lowe, Don and Barb Long, Margie Littrell, Darlene and Larry Collins, Arnold Cupp, Jeff and Sandy Lowe, and Craig and Nancy Lowe, and Ruth Barnette. The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the very special caregivers who made Kathleen’s days at home more enjoyable and possible: Lana Davis, Dora Jackson, Sandra Dianatto, and Pam Hurst. Deep appreciation is also given to the staff of Mt. Region Personal Care of Jonesville and Mt. Region Home Health of Duffield. Their dedicated staff worked with Mamaw over the years, helping her maintain independence and remain in her own home. Additionally, a special thank you goes to Dr. Jill Couch, whose compassionate care and friendship made her not just a provider but part of the family. Kathleen’s life was marked by her deep love for family, her resilience through hardship, and her gentle spirit that left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. She leaves behind her sweet “Mr. Popularity,” Tank, and her cat, Missy, who brought her so much joy and companionship. Her legacy will live on through her family, her quilting, her gardens, her violets, her cakes, her friendships, and all those who were blessed to know and love her. There's no other love that's as special as the love of a Mamaw. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 3, 2025, at Robinette Funeral Home in Rose Hill. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with K.J. Zumbrum and Larry Collins officiating. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Van Huss Grove Cemetery in Rose Hill, Virginia. Everyone is asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
