Edith Arkie Fee Presley

Edith Arkie Fee Presley, 103, of the Flatwoods Community of Lee County, Virginia, passed away peacefully at her home on August 22, 2026. Born in Jonesville, Virginia on June 2. 1923, she was the daughter of Scott and Nettle Fee. Edith lived her entire life in the Flatwoods Community, where she built a life centered around her family, her faith, and the simple joys she cherished. Edith was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Avery Presley; her son, Rick Presley, and his wife Sandy Presley, her daughter, Lavona Gray; her grandson Brook Horne; and her siblings Natella Hopkins and Eugene Fee. She is survived by her daughters, Rebecca Sumpter and husband Bill, Brenda Horne and husband Doug; sons, Larry Presley and wife Doris, Jerry Presley and wife Doris; her son-in-law, Ed Gray and Brook Horne's wife Katrina Horne. She leaves behind a loving family that includes her grandchildren, Allan Sumpter (Melissa), Susan Horne (Jay Beeler), Stephanie Sumpter (Tim Carter), Rachel Presley, Scott Britton Presley (Joanna), Jessica Strutz (Brian), Lindsey Bull (David), Matthew Presley (Joanna), Andrea Torbett (Scott) and John Parker Presley (Megan); her great-grandchildren, Sarah Sumpter, Kaitlyn Huff (Neal), Abby Presley, Ella Presley, Bryce Ward, Bethany Ward, Ryland Bull, Avery Bull, Kaiden Bull, Baylor Horne (Rachel), Gracie Horne (Scout) Julia Horne, Joey Nash and Jacob Nash, Charlotte Torbett; and her great-great grandchild Henley Huff. Family was the center of Edith's life. Whenever her children and grandchildren came home to visit, she made sure there was a meal prepared for them. Her kitchen and her table were places where family gathered, stories were shared, and love was quietly expressed. For Edith, caring for her family was one of the greatest joys of her life. She often reminded her children, "A mother's love goes with you everywhere, so please do not take it where it should not go." Those words reflected the wisdom and love she carried throughout her life, and they are words her children will carry with them always. Edith found joy in the simple things. She loved crocheting, gardening, flowers and birds. She was an avid reader and a devoted fan of Jeopardy. Most of all, she was a woman of faith who believed deeply in the power of prayer. The family would like to extend an extraordinary and heartfelt thank you to Chad Woodard, Edith's longtime caregiver and dear friend. Chad's years of compassionate care, friendship, patience and devotion meant more to Edith and her family than words can adequately express. He was a trusted and loving presence in her life, and his kindness helped make it possible for Edith to remain in the home and community she loved. The family will always be deeply grateful for the love and care he gave her. The family would also like to express their sincere appreciation to Angie Owens for the faithful and caring support she provided to Edith during the time she served as her caretaker. Her kindness and compassion were deeply appreciated by Edith and her family. A sincere thank you is also extended to all the caretakers who helped care for Edith throughout the years. Their kindness, compassion, and dedication were deeply appreciated by Edith and her family. Those who knew Edith will remember her gentle spirit, her kindness, her wisdom, and the way she made people feel loved. If there is a kindness quotient for the world, she made everyone just a little bit kinder. Her 103 years were a gift to her family and to all who knew her. She leaves behind not only generations of family, but a legacy of love, faith, kindness, and devotion that will continue through them. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in the hearts of those she loved. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at Robinette Funeral Home in Jonesville. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Roger Edends officiating. Graveside services will follow at Lee Memorial Gardens in Woodway.
