James Ray Lucas

James Ray Lucas, 86, of Jonesville, VA passed away on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at his residence. Ray was born on November 4, 1932 to the late Roy and Estelle Snodgrass Lucas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 29 years, Wilma Alder Lucas. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He delivered dairy products for Hillcrest Dairy, was a manager at Cas Walker Supermarket, and was a co-owner and operator of Way-Lo Supermarket and Lee Packing Company. Ray retired at the age of 83 from Food City as a bag boy. He is survived by his wife, Linda Hobbs Shuler Lucas; daughter, Vickie Lucas Roberts; two grandsons, Jonathan Roberts and wife Amanda, and Travis Moore and wife Nikki; the apples of his eyes, two great-granddaughters, MacKenzie Kay Moore and Maddison Raye Moore; two honorary great-grandsons, Liam and Kaceton Wray; two step-sons, Allen Shuler and wife Sheila, and Robert Shuler and wife Sheila; four step-grandchildren, Dawn Bailey and husband Neal, Trey Shuler, Gary Shuler and Max Shuler; three step-great-grandchildren, Nathan Bailey, Brook Bailey and Warner Shuler; and a host of cousins and good friends. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8:00 p.m. Sunday, November 25, at Robinette Funeral Home in Jonesville. The funeral service will follow at 8:00 p.m. with Rev. Bill Rines officiating. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 26, at Lee Memorial Gardens in Woodway. Everyone is asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:30 a.m. to travel in procession to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be Gary Shuler, Max Shuler, Nathan Bailey, Dana Hobbs, Trey Shuler and Robert Shuler. Honorary pallbearers will be Allen Shuler and Elton Hobbs.
