Ronnie Lynn Lawson
October 21, 1949 - April 14, 2020
Ronnie Lynn Lawson, 70, passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2020. Ronnie was a U.S. Army Veteran who served with the 18th Engineer Brigade helping build Highway 1 in Vietnam. Following his time in service, he spent the next 22 years as a coal miner. He was a member of First Baptist Church of St. Charles, and was a member of the UMWA. He loved fishing, trading knives and sharing tall tales. He was the “Mayor of Liars Hole” who never met a stranger. He is preceded in death by his parents, Orbin and Betty Turner Lawson, and by a granddaughter, Hailee Whitt. He is survived by two daughters, Tiffany Gilliam (Willie) of Gate City, VA and Wendy Whitt (Tim) of Rose Hill, VA; one special sister, Kay Conley of the home; six brothers, Charles Lawson, Wayne Lawson (Wanda), Danny Lawson (Reba), Mitchell Lawson (Kathy), Gary Lawson and Earl Lawson (Brenda) all of Pennington Gap, VA; six grandchildren, Amber and Neal Miles of Jonesville, VA, Jesse Gilliam of Hampton, VA, Brandon Gilliam of Gate City, VA and Cei Jhae and Matthew Whitt of Rose Hill, VA; many nieces and nephews. Friends and family are welcome to come by and view Mr. Lawson at Robinette Funeral Home on Thursday, April 16, from 5 until 7:00 p.m. Please be aware that there will be only 10 people allowed in the building at any one time. A private graveside will be held at Powell Valley Cemetery in Dryden.
