Mary Elizabeth Phillips

October 11, 1941 - May 13, 2022

Mary Elizabeth Hammonds Phillips, 80, of Jonesville, VA went to be with our Lord and Savior on May 13, 2022 with family by her side. We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:8 KJV Mary was born on October 10, 1941 in Jonesville, Virginia and grew up in the Ocoonita community. After graduating from Clinch Valley College, she moved to Tennessee, where she retired from Martin Marietta as an IT Tech in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. After many years away from Virginia, she returned “home” to the mountains she loved. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Jonesville, Virginia. Mary lived a life of gratitude and had love for others, which was shown by her actions throughout her life. She always had a smile on her face and cherished spending time with her family and attending church. She was adored and loved by all who met her, and she will be deeply missed by family and friends. Mary was proceeded in death by her husband of 29 years, Lee Phillips; parents, Elmer and Maxie Hammonds; brother, Morrison “Tubby” Hammonds and infant siblings, Olin and Hattie Mae Hammonds; niece, Missy Cook and stepson, Rick Phillips. Mary is survived by her devoted and loving sister and brother, who remained faithfully by her side in her final months, Jannie Estella (Dennis) Grizzle and Billy Ray Hammonds, both of Jonesville, Virginia. Nieces and Nephews: Denise Harris, Jana (Earnest) Gouge, Jae (Rick) Brown, Mickey (Tiffany) Hammonds, Renae (Scott) Skidmore and a host of great and great-great nieces and nephews and extended family; stepson, Ron (Tara) Phillips and several step-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 11 AM-1PM on May 16, 2022 at Robinette Funeral Home in Jonesville, Virginia. Funeral services will begin at 1PM with Pastor Mickey Gibson officiating. Graveside service will be following at Bethel Cemetery in Jonesville, Virginia. Pallbearers will be great-nephews: Jared Harris, Jacob Harris, Lance Cook, Mason Cook, Noah Gouge and Cade Brown. Honorary Pallbearers: Mickey Hammonds, Scott Skidmore, Gary Jones, Earnest Gouge and Rick Brown.
