Danny "Groundhog" Sweeney

Danny “Groundhog” Sweeney, 65, of Jonesville, VA was born March 26, 1957 and passed away at his home on Friday, April 15, 2022. He is preceded in death by his parents, Johnson and Berdie Sweeney; six brothers, Gene Mullins, Earl Mullins, Harold Mullins, Henry Mullins, Bill Mullins, and Dennis Sweeney; one step-daughter, Melissa Garrett of Jonesville, VA. He is survived by one son, D.J. Sweeney; brothers, Tony Mullins, Precious Sweeney, Sheep Sweeney all of Jonesville, VA, Jerry Sweeney of Woodway, VA and Howard Sweeney of North Carolina; one sister, Judy Cody of Jonesville, VA; step-children, Mikaeya Williams, Kristin Davidson, Kayla Mullins, and Myranda Williams; and several nieces and nephews. Groundhog was a farmer and he managed the David Baker Farm in Jonesville for the last 27 years. He also worked for Curt and Gary Russell Sawmill for many years. His hobbies included mud boggin’, tractor pulls and he loved going to auctions. He was a member of McConnell’s Chapel Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 5 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at Robinette Funeral Home in Jonesville, VA. Funeral services will begin at 8:00 p.m. with Steve Neff officiating. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 22 in the Russell Cemetery in Sweeney Hollow in Pennington Gap, VA. Everyone that wishes to travel in procession to the cemetery is asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:30 a.m. on Friday.
