Catherine Maurine Hopkins
October 18, 1931 - September 5, 2020
Catherine Maurine (Matlock) Hopkins was born on October 18, 1931 to the late Bud and Mae Matlock in Lee County. She passed away on September 5, 2020. She spent her life raising her four children, a few nieces and nephews, and helped raise many grandchildren. She was a longtime member of Silver Leaf Baptist Church in Rose Hill. Maureen loved spending time with family and friends, always having a story to share. She took great pride in her years working for Kroger in Middlesboro, farming alongside family, and taking care of any animal that found its way to her home. Although she did not get out much in her later years, she somehow knew everything that was going on in the Rose Hill/Flatwoods areas and beyond. In addition to her parents Maureen is preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years Bill Hopkins. Her siblings Ruby Bruns, Alene Saylor, Cam Matlock, and Boyce Matlock. She is survived by her sister Sara Ann Olsen, four children: Jim Hopkins (Pat) of Rose Hill, Bill Hopkins (Gayle) of Lubbock Texas, Susan Taylor (Virgil) of Rose Hill, and Nancy Litton (Brad) of Jonesville. She had nine grandchildren Oda Hopkins (Becca), Megan Lewis, William Allen (Kevin), Katie Hopkins, Jason Taylor (Delania), Julie Payne (Adam), Jared Taylor (Kristi), Ashley Taylor (Rick), and Lauren Gibson (Derek). She is also survived by 13 great grandchildren: Belle, Julie, Camden, Jacob, Skylar, Gwen, Zach, Peyton, Anna, Isaac, Alene (Ally), River, and Gauge. The family would like to extend a special thanks to her caregiver Mary Russell who stayed with her providing great company in her last days. Maureen was ready for her heavenly home. She will be greatly missed as the cherished matriarch of the Hopkins family. A memorial service will be held at a later date. --
